Beware The Driving Munchkin

Munchkin will be the first to let you know, that on October 13, 2009, she will be fifteen and a half years old. That day is significant because, this is the day she can get her learners permit to drive. This causes me great worry. She has asked me numerous times, "Which one is the gas, and which one is the brake again?".

So, late one Saturday afternoon Hubs decided to take Munchkin out, and let her get behind the wheel. We live close to a community college. It has roads, mostly empty on weekend afternoons, which make it the perfect place to practice.

The time they were gone seemed to drag. I was imagining all sorts of horrible things happening. Finally, I hear the car pull up. Munchkin comes in the house BEAMING.

Me: How did it go?
Munchkin: It was fantastic. I only got honked at ONE time! *raises hand for a high five*.

I am SO not ready for this.

  1. "Which one is the gas, and which one is the brake again?" - priceless!

My oldest will get his learners permit in 8.5 years. It sounds like a long time but I'm sure it'll be here before I know it. And I SO won't be ready for it.

  3. Oh, that's funny. "Only" one time. :-) She'll get better, don't worry. If some of the people I know manage it, she will too. ;-)

  4. Lord, I hope she's joking!! :)

I don't think parents are ever ready for the teenage driver. It's at least 15 years away for us and I sweat already just thinking about it!

  5. My mom always said "potty & drivers training" the two worst things about parenthood. In both cases, w/my girls potty training was pretty easy. I could've made it hard w/#2, but realized no one makes her do anything till she wants, so I let her decide. One day she did, and that was it. Put on panties & used the toilet. Sooo, I'm hoping it speaks well for drivers training, (a girl can dream) got about 10 yrs to worry about it. Hoping I luck out & they move it up to 18 by that time too. :-)

  6. Aren't there rules that they're not allowed to grow up? Gah. Next thing you know, she'll be asking to borrow the car. Tell her to start saving gas money now.

  7. I have two driving. My youngest is only 14 and has a ways to go still. I'm still not used to it. I think their driving adds many wrinkles to our faces!

  8. I almost have two driving. My advice, get them a junker car. My teenager's car does NOT go over 25MPH without stalling out. I love that.

Also take them out on dirt roads and let them go nuts to get it out of their system.
